PSA Art Awakenings is a nonprofit organization based out of Phoenix Arizona that promotes empowerment and recovery through the power of creative expression. Art Awakenings serves title 19 severely mentally ill clients through vocational rehabilitation in the art. Art Awakenings opened two studios in Bisbee and Douglas in January of 2011. The Gallery located at 50 Main Street in Old Bisbee, opened later in May 2011. The Gallery is a means for the clients to sell their art work and interact with the community. Artist Yanaba Paladin and Coriana Eastman will be the guest artists painting during the Bisbee after 5.

News from Panterra Gallery: Tomorrow, 5/24, ENJOY “10% TUESDAY!”

PanTerra Gallery will be joining over 17 businesses in launching Bisbee Shop & Share…10% Tuesday. Tuesday May 24th, business owners participating in Bisbee Shop & Share have agreed to donate 10% of their sales to the Shop & Share program. The group is working with Carrie Gustuvson, President of the Bisbee Rotary Charities. This donation will be made to a Rotary chapter in Japan. 100% of funds collected will be distributed by the Bisbee Rotary Charities. 

Customers can look for the Shop & Share logo at local businesses. Residents shopping locally, and visitors who enjoy all that Bisbee has to offer are going to have a lot more fun on Tuesday May 24th and help a meaningful cause.

PanTerra is looking forward to the buzz that’s created when people come together for a project like this. It’s a special satisfaction shared giving brings.

News from the BISBEE 1000-The Great Stairclimb

The Board of the Bisbee 1000, the Great Stairclimb is proud to announce that Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Foundation will be the Title Sponsor for the 21st annual Bisbee 1000. FMIF created a donation challenge and will match dollar for dollar what we raise up to our 20,000 goal. We are excited to invite everyone to help Freeport-McMoran and the Board of the Bisbee 1000 raise money to support programs that promote health and wellness in the Bisbee community.

Join us on October 15th for the 21st year of the Bisbee 1000 – the most unique physical fitness challenge in the USA! This event encourages physical fitness regardless of age, level of fitness, or athletic ability. Participants may use any combination of walking, running and resting to traverse nine sets of steps and numerous back-roads, in a figure eight course, at a mile-high altitude, while being serenaded by musicians along the route. The Bisbee 1000 has expanded to include Pick- Up- Packet- Pizza- Party with music and prizes on Friday, October 15 from 4-7pm.

The Bisbee 1000 along with the Iceman Competition and the Made in Bisbee Art Marketplace make a superb weekend in southern
Arizona. This year, finisher medals will be awarded to all who complete the Bisbee 1000.

News from Ecoasis

We are celebrating the grand opening of Ecoasis Lodging (suites and Hostel rooms available). Suits as low as $70/night for Queen sized room with full kitchen, living room, and balcony. Hostel  = 20/person. We expect to be taking reservations for the hostel and hotel no later than May 1st. Although we were not looking to get into the lodging industry, the chance to manage the building is an excellent opportunity for Ecoasis to gather funds for its other projects.

 

Ecoasis is reinstating its Computer Recycling Drive! We have noted a continued need for computer repair and recycling, and we have the opportunity to partner up with an up and coming business called Subway Computers who will put used parts to good use. So, if you have a computer that needs repairing, or parts that no longer serve you, please contact Ecoasis to schedule a drop off.

 Finally, we want to thank you all for your generous response to our request for furniture to fill our hostel and hotel rooms! We are still looking for a few items. We still need a Queen sized futon frame, Two Sets of DVD and VCR Players, blankets and pillows in good condition, space rugs, and kitchen supplies.

 

Ecoasis will continue holding its monthly potluck and poetry open mic on the first Friday of every month, as well as the monthly Water Wise Lectures and workshops.

Our gallery space will continue to be available for workshops and events in the vein of sustainability, and locally made products will be on display for sale soon. We are still offering catering services using all local and organic ingredients. Also on the agenda for the near future is the Ecoasis Composting Program, a Movie Night every weekend, and a permaculture workshop this summer with permaculture specialist, Cathe’ Fish.

Ecoasis will be selling breakfast and lunch items every Saturday at the Farmer’s market starting Earth Day, April 30th
